Ride over Hurricane Mountain

Did about 140 miles today on the bike with Becky riding pillion and Dad and Mom on his Road King. Destination was North Conway, NH via Hurricane Mountain Rd. This is a tight, twisty road with some good elevation. It's completely paved but isn't maintained in the winter so you know it's a fun ride. It runs between South Chatham and Intervale, NH slipping between Mt. Kearsarge and Black Cap, up behind Mt. Cranmore ski area.

We started around 10 heading north through Limerick, Porter and Brownsfield on some nice newly paved roads. Then we cut through Fryeburg into New Hampshire and over Hurricane Mt. Rd. It was a still a little before noon so after stopping in North Conway/Intervale for just a couple minutes to catch our breath we headed back east over hurricane Mt. Rd. in the other direction with plans to grab lunch in Fryeburg.

We stopped for sandwiches at Quinn's Jockey Cap Country Store & Motel. They had a decent selection of pre-made sandwiches and wraps. We drove a few miles up 302 to the Saco River take-out and watched the canoes come in after a busy weekend on the river. The water was really low and the weather was cool enough I didn't feel like I needed to put my feet in. But it was a nice day so we didn't hang around long before heading back towards Camp.

We did make one more stop, at the Hiram Dam since we were following the river south. It was pretty dry, holding back most of the water to keep it in the river. Then back through Cornish to meet back up with the new road and back to the lake. I think we ended up rolling in around 3.

Becky got some more seat time on the bike and realized some gear she probably wants before the fall trip to Bar Harbor.
